About Lauren
Poet, Author, and Lover of Words
A Few Tidbits About Me
Hi! I’m Lauren Underwood, a writer based in Kansas City. I’ve loved writing ever since I was a kid, thanks to my family and teachers who encouraged me to put pen to paper. I studied English and Creative Writing at the University of Kansas and always knew I wanted to build a career around storytelling.
After college, I started writing professionally at a digital marketing agency. Over time, I moved into managing SEO, editing, and social media—all of which helped me understand how words really work in the real world.
I self-published my first poetry book, these nights I spend with my ghosts, which dives into my mental health struggles. My second book, my bones in your backyard, explores heartbreak and relationships with honesty and nuance.
I am currently working on my third poetry book (title and cover reveal coming soon!) as well as a literary fiction novel that is near and dear to my heart.
I’m a true Midwesterner who loves the outdoors, quiet bookstores, and imperfect sentences. When I’m not writing, you’ll probably find me reading something unexpected or hunting for the perfect cup of coffee.
I also co-host The Revision Room, a podcast all about the ups and downs of the creative process. My friend Gabby and I share honest stories about drafts, revisions, and everything that goes into making a piece of writing come alive.
Writing can be messy, beautiful, and totally worth it. I’m glad you stopped by to share the journey with me!
